Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Tegal Regency was 112 per 100,000 live births in 2016 and decreased to 52.7 per 100,000 live births in 2017. Antenatal care (ANC) services are provided to pregnant women by health workers to maintain pregnancy in accordance with established midwifery service standards, including ANC implemented under the supervision of coordinating midwives and work motivation. The purpose of this study is to obtain empirical evidence regarding the effect of coordinating midwife supervision on the quality standards of antenatal care services with work motivation as an intervening variable among midwives in the Pagiyanten Community Health Center area, Tegal Regency. The population of this study were all midwives working and residing in the Pagiyanten Community Health Center area, totaling 48 people, and the study used total sampling on the entire population. Data were collected using questionnaires, and data analysis techniques used multiple linear regression and path analysis. The results showed that coordinating midwife supervision had a positive effect on ANC service quality standards, coordinating midwife supervision had an effect on midwives’ work motivation, and work motivation had a positive effect on ANC service quality. The conclusion of the study is that there is no significant effect of coordinating midwife supervision on ANC service quality with work motivation as an intervening variable. Suggestions for maternal and child health policymakers are that in order to improve ANC service quality, coordinating midwife supervision should be implemented regularly and scheduled, and the quality standards of supervision should be improved.
