Abstract

Vocational High Schools (SMK) implement quality assurance in the education process by applying a quality management system based on ISO 9001:2008. As an international quality standard, the consistent implementation of ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems will improve school quality and efficiency in managing school resources so that students can enhance their life skills, including personal, social, intellectual, and vocational skills for employment or independent entrepreneurship. The purpose of this study is to obtain empirical evidence regarding the effect of teacher competence, education service quality, and graduate competency standards based on ISO 9001:2008 on students’ life skills at SMK Negeri 1 Bumijawa. The population of this study were students of SMK Negeri 1 Bumijawa in the 2017/2018 academic year, totaling 1,175 students, and the sample used proportional sampling of 93 students. Data were collected using questionnaires, and data analysis techniques used multiple linear regression. The results showed that teacher competence had a significant effect on students’ life skills (p value 0.044 < 0.05), education service quality had a significant effect on students’ life skills (p value 0.043 < 0.05), and graduate competency standards had a significant effect on students’ life skills at SMK Negeri 1 Bumijawa (p value 0.032 < 0.05). The conclusion of the study is that teacher competence, education service quality, and graduate competency standards simultaneously affect students’ life skills at SMK Negeri 1 Bumijawa (p value 0.000 < 0.05). Suggestions for the school principal are to strengthen teacher training and education, especially in improving competencies required by students, and to enhance the quality of education services to support a clean, efficient, effective, transparent, professional, and accountable education system.
